Co-Founder and CEO
Analena is in charge of marketing/promotions, fundraising and often just holding the whole MASH PIT team together, like glue. Her vast experience as a flight RN, educator and business owner gives her the level head and insight to determine what needs to get done, and then she just does it! Analena began her medical career as a paramedic for fire and rescue. She graduated nursing school and began her career as a nurse in the Emergency Room, Neuro and Medical Intensive Care Units. She moved on to a different branch of nursing, flight medicine and emergency care, which includes critical care ground transport, helicopter transport and fixed wing plane transport. Currently, Analena is a Clinical Educator in the Emergency Department at a local hospital in Virginia. She keeps up her skills and helps others keep up theirs by teaching specialty classes to the First Responders, EMTs and Paramedics in the local firehouses. In total, Analena brings 8 years of specialty nursing experience to this organization. In her spare time, Analena proudly remains an active member in many community programs, such as the Loudoun Medical Reserve Corps as a volunteer nurse and with the National Latin American Organization, MANA, promoting and advocating the health and education of the Latina woman.
Co-Founder and Secretary
Julia has done it all from chopper dispatch to disaster team coordination. As MASH PIT's administrative coordinator, she ensures that training, venue/event planning, record keeping (including data collection for academic journal publication), and event execution are run efficiently. You will even find her roaming, treating and educating people at an event. Julia has worked in emergency medical services for 11 years, performing various jobs to include, volunteer firefighter, first responder for a reserve unit, EMT at a level one trauma center and communications specialist for a helicopter medevac program. Most of Julia's years of service has been in the latter specialty. This has given Julia a unique perspective on EMS operations as it relates to coordinating ambulance and helicopter resources; at an event, communications and resource utilization are Julia's claim to fame. Julia is a Master's educated forensic scientist and works part-time in the Physical/Forensic Anthropology Department of the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in DC, and full-time as a communications specialist for a helicopter medevac program.
Medical Director
Dave has been a physician in trauma and emergency medicine since the mid-80s. Dave begun the work of standardizing event medial care by participating in sports and concert events. He has covered events at RFK in DC since 1992 and has done HFS Festivals and The Tibet Freedom Festival. Dave has published two papers on mosh pit injuries for academic journals. Additionally, Dave has worked with The Redskins and The Ravens football teams and with The Capitals hockey team. Dr. Milzman is an ER attending at a level one trauma center.
Co-Founder and Vice President
In charge of medical logistics for MASH PIT, Meia brings to the organization her experience developing mobile trauma units, training medical teams and implementing standards for the US Air Force Reserves. Meia began her nursing career with the babies of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She transitioned into the field of trauma and emergency medicine where she worked as a fixed wing plane transport RN for the Air Force. Shortly after that, Meia was awarded a placement as a flight RN with a civilian helicopter medevac program. This is where Meia has been polishing her nursing skills. Meia brings a total of 7 years of nursing experience to MASH PIT. Meia remains an active member of the US Air Force Reserves, serving as a RN for critical care fixed wing transports.
Co-Founder and President
Melissa brings a wealth emergency medical experience to the MASH PIT team. She is a trained flight paramedic with specially honed skills in airway control and management. Melissa brings a total of 10 years EMS experience to this organization. Before becoming a flight paramedic, she worked as a ground paramedic. As volunteer coordinator, her duties include: training, facilitating, certifying and saving lives. Melissa makes sure the staff and volunteers know what to do, where to do it, and how it needs to be done. Melissa is a natural teacher and will be heading up the training initiatives for our employees and volunteers. In her spare time, Melissa is studying to become a nurse and is a trained distance runner who travels to compete in half marathons and full marathons.
